Luma has introduced eight mini-apps inside Luma Agents for specific image-editing jobs, from changing a background to producing localised ad variations. The pitch is practical: make targeted changes while preserving the parts of an image a team has already approved, rather than starting again.

What happened

The tools are Face Swap, Camera Angles, Light Transfer, Relight Studio, Virtual Try-On, Background Swap, Ad Variants and Product Shots. Luma says each handles a distinct task, such as adjusting lighting, placing a product in a new scene or adapting an ad for different formats and markets.

The company also says users can save multi-step workflows as reusable Luma Skills. Mini-apps are available through Luma Agents, with full access starting on its $30-a-month Plus plan; Luma lists Pro at $90 a month.

Why it matters

For creative teams, the useful promise is less rework: change one element without having to regenerate the whole image and risk losing an approved layout, product detail or visual style. Saving a repeated sequence as a Skill could also turn a routine campaign job into a reusable process.

That is a more concrete proposition than another tool that simply promises to make more images. Whether the edits reliably preserve the details that matter is the test, especially for product imagery and brand-sensitive work.

Our read

Luma is betting that the tedious middle of creative production is a better place for AI than the endless first draft. That makes sense. The named tools cover recognisable jobs, and reusable workflows could be handy for teams making the same kinds of changes across many assets.

The catch is in the word “preserving”: Luma describes what its tools are designed to do, but the announcement does not establish how consistently they deliver. Treat the time-saving claims as the company’s pitch, and test the tools on real campaign assets before building a workflow around them.

What to watch

  • Whether targeted edits preserve approved layouts, logos and product details in practice.
  • How much setup is needed to save and reuse a Skill.
  • Whether the Plus and Pro plans suit teams’ actual production needs.

Discussion spark: For creative teams, is AI’s bigger value making first drafts faster, or letting people revise approved work without starting over?
