Nous Research says it has raised a Series B to take Hermes Agent into new areas, including a planned mobile app. The funding could widen the reach of an open-source AI agent that has so far been known chiefly as software for computers and developers.

Nous/Hermes Watch analysis

What happened

Nous announced the round on 7 October, thanking investors including NVIDIA, M12, Samsung Next, Robot Ventures, USV, Y Combinator and Menlo Ventures. The announcement does not state how much was raised or give a launch date for the mobile app.

Nous said the round was reported by the Wall Street Journal. The company’s announcement establishes that it says it has raised a Series B; it does not provide further deal terms.

Why it matters

A mobile app would put Hermes Agent closer to the everyday assistant territory now crowded with products that live in a phone, rather than a terminal or desktop. That could change who can use Hermes and what they expect it to do. It also leaves the difficult product questions in plain view: what the agent will be able to access, what tasks it can carry out, and where people remain in control.

The investor list includes NVIDIA and several venture firms, but the announcement gives no funding figure or breakdown. There is not yet enough detail to judge how much of the round will go towards the app, or what “new frontiers” means beyond the stated mobile plan.

Our read

The mobile ambition is the useful news here, not a funding headline with its most important number missing. If Nous can bring Hermes to phones without making setup, permissions and oversight an afterthought, it could make the project more approachable. For now, the app is a plan, not a product you can download. A little less launch confetti and a little more detail on what it can do would be welcome.

What to watch

  • Whether Nous discloses the Series B amount and any further terms.
  • When the mobile app is expected, and which platforms it will support.
  • What capabilities, permissions and user controls the app will include.

Discussion spark: For a phone-based AI agent, which should Nous prioritise first: making everyday tasks genuinely useful, or giving users clear control over what the agent can access and do?
