OpenAI says it has doubled usage limits for its Pro 100, Pro 200 and Pro 500 plans, as well as Business Premium, effective immediately. The change matters to subscribers who use OpenAI’s products for work: the company says the higher limits are available now, while specifying that Pro 200 Work and Codex usage will stay the same.

OpenAI Watch analysis

What happened

OpenAI product lead Tibo Sottiaux announced the changes on 29 October. He said the company had heard customer feedback and would not reduce Pro 200 limits; Work and Codex usage on that tier would therefore remain unchanged. His post also says extended limits for Dot will continue.

The announcement does not give the new limits in numbers, or explain which usage categories are doubled on each plan. That leaves the headline change clear, but the precise allowance subscribers can expect less so.

Why it matters

Usage limits shape how much work people can do before hitting a cap or waiting for it to reset. Doubling limits across several paid tiers could give subscribers more room to use OpenAI’s tools, while the Pro 200 clarification matters to anyone who feared a cut to Work or Codex access.

Without the actual figures or a breakdown by product, subscribers cannot yet compare the new allowances tier by tier. The useful detail is the immediate change; the missing detail is how much headroom it buys.

Our read

This is a meaningful change to what subscribers can use, not just a new badge on a plan page. But “doubled” is less useful than a number when you are trying to decide whether a tier will cover your workload. OpenAI should publish the before-and-after limits by plan and product; subscribers should check the current allowance for the tools they actually use.

What to watch

  • Whether OpenAI publishes exact before-and-after limits for each plan.
  • Which products and usage categories are included in the doubling.
  • Whether the promised Pro 200 Work and Codex limits remain unchanged in practice.

Discussion spark: Should AI subscriptions advertise exact usage limits by product, or are broad plan-wide allowances enough for customers to make a fair comparison?
