Pax8 has launched 8os, a platform for IT service providers to govern AI agents across small-business customers, alongside 8bot, a managed AI co-worker for their employees. The practical promise is a shared way to oversee agents, keep customer context separate and cap usage before bills run away.

What happened
Pax8 unveiled the products at its Beyond EMEA conference in Copenhagen on 19 October, according to SiliconANGLE. Partners can manage agents and models from different vendors through 8os, setting ownership and operating rules for each client. The platform builds on the marketplace Pax8 says is already used by more than 47,000 IT providers serving around 800,000 small businesses.
Employees get 8bot, which handles everyday tasks and returns work for staff to review and refine. Pax8 says usage and spending are metered per user and customer, with hard caps to limit consumption. Both products enter limited early access this week, with general availability planned for early next year.
Why it matters
Pax8 says nine in ten small businesses are using or experimenting with AI, while only 23% have a documented policy covering it. Its survey also found that nearly half had discovered unsanctioned AI use in the previous six months. Those figures are the company’s own survey findings, but they point to a real operational question: who is responsible when staff bring agents into business workflows?
Pax8 is betting that IT providers can become the supervisors, setting rules across multiple clients rather than building a bespoke AI setup for each one. Keeping customer context separate and putting a ceiling on usage address two practical headaches: data crossing business boundaries and surprise bills.
Our read
This is more than another assistant with a jaunty name. 8os puts governance and billing in the hands of the IT partners many small firms already rely on, while 8bot gives them something concrete to deploy. The pitch is sensible; the test will be whether partners can see and control what agents actually do, and whether the service works across the different models and vendors it promises to manage. A dashboard is useful, but governance needs more than a tidy dashboard.
What to watch
- Which models and agents partners can manage through 8os at launch.
- Whether the per-customer separation and spending caps work as described in real deployments.
- How limited early access turns into general availability next year.
Discussion spark: Should small businesses rely on their IT providers to govern workplace AI agents, or should responsibility and control stay with the businesses themselves?
