Samsung plans to bring USDC cross-border transfers to Samsung Wallet and Samsung Pay in the US, with a launch expected in the last week of October. The feature is slated to reach 82 million Galaxy devices, putting stablecoin payments inside a familiar phone wallet rather than a separate crypto app.

Watch Desk analysis

What happened

Samsung is partnering with Solana on the integration, which will use Solana’s network behind the scenes. The companies are also working with Bastion and Coinbase Prime on custody and infrastructure. Samsung says the service will include ways to move between dollars and digital dollars, and that it will not charge a direct transfer fee.

The announcement says expansion to other markets will depend on local regulatory requirements. The launch date is still in the future, so this is a planned feature, not a service users can access today. Solana’s announcement

Why it matters

The headline number is reach: 82 million US Galaxy devices could get access at launch. Bringing USDC transfers into a wallet people already use may lower the hassle of sending money across borders, while putting the blockchain infrastructure out of sight. That could broaden access, though it does not settle questions about exchange rates, eligibility or how the service will work in practice.

Our read

This is a significant distribution deal, not just another crypto wallet launch. The useful test will be whether Samsung makes cross-border transfers genuinely straightforward, and what users pay once the dollar conversion and other practical details come into view. A zero direct transfer fee is welcome; it is not the same thing as a full price tag.

What to watch

  • Whether the service launches on schedule in the last week of October.
  • Which US Galaxy devices and users are eligible.
  • The conversion, funding and withdrawal details, including any costs beyond Samsung’s direct transfer fee.
  • Whether Samsung announces availability in markets beyond the US.

Discussion spark: Would you trust cross-border USDC transfers more when they are built into a phone wallet you already use, or would you rather keep crypto payments in a separate app?

Update

What changed

Sui says it is the blockchain infrastructure partner for Samsung Wallet’s USDC integration, replacing the Solana partnership described in the earlier announcement. The rollout is planned for the US in late October and is intended to reach 82 million Galaxy devices.

According to Sui, users will be able to hold and send USDC without holding SUI tokens or paying network gas fees. The company describes the process as similar to sending a message. Coinbase is providing the stablecoin experience and custody services.

Sui also says international expansion and transfers to bank accounts in more than 60 countries are planned, subject to regulatory approval. Those are future plans, not features the announcement says are available at launch.
