SAP Business One now offers AI tools for asking questions about authorised business data and creating lists from natural-language prompts. Its partner ecosystem is also building agents that can act inside the ERP, with human confirmation for irreversible actions.

What happened

SAP says its integrated Ask AI and AI user-defined query features were introduced in August. Users can ask contextual questions about business data they are authorised to access, or request a shareable list in ordinary language, such as the top five customers by outstanding payments.

The company also describes partner-built tools. Forge AI can search invoices, create goods receipts and perform other actions, but requires human confirmation for irreversible steps. Cloudiax’s AXeLANT Chat runs on the partner’s NVIDIA infrastructure in Germany and can analyse data or carry out tasks such as creating a sales quote, with a human in the loop.

SAP says Business One version 11 will add agentic AI capabilities for the Web client. Initial partner preview is planned for 2027, alongside cloud-management changes including native deployment support for AWS, Azure and Google Cloud.

Why it matters

This is a practical picture of AI entering small-business software: questions over existing data, generated lists and agents that can write back into business systems. The difference between answering a query and changing an order is rather important; SAP’s examples put human approval in the path of consequential actions.

Our read

The useful question is not whether an ERP can acquire an AI label, but whether staff can save time without losing control of the records and actions that run a business. These examples make the capability more concrete, while SAP’s account does not provide independent performance results. The approval step is reassuring; the real test will be how well it works in everyday use.

What to watch

  • How Business One’s AI features perform in actual customer workflows.
  • What agentic capabilities arrive in the version 11 partner preview.
  • Whether partners explain how data access and human approvals work in deployment.

Discussion spark: For AI agents inside business software, should human approval be required for every change to a record, or only for actions that are difficult to reverse?
