SAP has made four migration and modernisation assistants available to early-adopter customers, with the tools already supporting live cloud ERP transformation projects. They cover data management, testing, custom code and business configuration, giving SAP customers specific AI tools for work that can otherwise bog down an ERP migration.

SAP Watch analysis

What happened

The assistants are designed to help teams identify and prioritise data-quality issues, prepare test scopes and cases, modernise custom code, and plan business configurations. SAP says the Data Management Assistant is in use at AkzoNobel during its RISE with SAP transformation; the customer says it helped identify critical data issues and prioritise remediation.

SAP says the Test Management Assistant can generate test cases and identify required test data, with cases passed to SAP Test Automation by Tricentis for execution. The Custom Code Assistant assesses code and can apply available fixes, while the Business Configuration Assistant recommends and applies configurations tailored to a customer’s industry and goals. These are SAP’s descriptions of the tools and their capabilities.

Why it matters

ERP migrations involve a thicket of data, testing, code and configuration decisions. AI support in those workstreams could reduce manual effort and help teams spot problems earlier. The practical detail is that these tools are moving beyond a product announcement: SAP says customers are already using them in live transformation projects, though the announcement offers no independent performance measures.

Our read

This is a substantial enterprise-software development because it puts AI assistants to work across four concrete parts of cloud ERP transformation. The useful question is whether they make projects measurably faster or more reliable, not whether “agent-led” sounds suitably futuristic on a slide. SAP says it plans further assistants for system analysis, project management and rollouts, but those remain planned rather than available today.

What to watch

  • Whether SAP publishes measured results on time saved, data quality or testing coverage.
  • How broadly the four assistants move beyond early-adopter customers.
  • When SAP makes the planned system-analysis, project-management and rollout assistants available.

Discussion spark: For complex ERP migrations, should AI assistants be allowed to apply fixes and configurations automatically, or should they remain recommendation tools until customers can compare measured results?
