Tencent is positioning WorkBuddy as the centre of a connected AI office suite, while keeping access to multiple large language models. At its 29 October summit in Shenzhen, executive Dowson Tong said enterprises should be able to choose models and agents for different tasks, rather than depend on one provider.

What happened

BigGo Finance reports that Tencent announced BuddyOne, an integrated suite linking WorkBuddy with Tencent Docs, Tencent Meeting, ima and Tencent Drive. Users who bind a BuddyOne ID can search and call across those products, with credits and storage shared between them.

Tong said WorkBuddy Enterprise had been deployed across more than 50 industries, covering 50% of the Fortune China 500 and 60% of the Fortune China 100. The report also says the platform lists more than 200,000 Skills. Tencent plans to open WorkBuddy’s product architecture to companies’ own agents and third-party agents, including connections to third-party messaging services.

Why it matters

The pitch is bigger than adding another chatbot to the office: Tencent wants its existing work products to operate as one AI-connected environment, with access to different models and agents. That could make switching between services less appealing, while giving businesses more choice over which model handles which task.

There is a commercial test beneath the ecosystem talk. Tong said a key measure of enterprise AI’s value is whether customers will pay for tokens and recover the cost through savings or greater efficiency. The report also describes four BuddyOne membership tiers, with the same benefits but different discounts.

Our read

Multi-model access is a sensible answer to a market where capabilities and costs keep shifting. But the useful test is not how many tools can be connected; it is whether teams can do worthwhile work across them without adding friction, cost or a new layer of administration. A shared login is handy. A shared workflow that people will pay for is the harder achievement.

What to watch

  • Which Tencent services and outside agents become available through BuddyOne.
  • Whether the membership tiers turn shared access into a paying business.
  • Whether customers can show that AI token costs are offset by measurable savings or efficiency.

Discussion spark: Would you rather have one tightly connected office suite with access to several AI models, or keep your tools separate so you can switch providers more easily?
