Tencent has opened beta applications for a cloud-drive service designed to connect files and work across its AI and office apps. The pitch is a shared store of materials and context, rather than another assistant that forgets everything when you change tools.

What happened

Tencent Drive’s beta opened on 29 October, according to a KuCoin report attributing its account to AIBase Today. The service is described as linking WorkBuddy, WeCom and Tencent Meeting, so files and work can move between them. Users can apply through Tencent’s official website, the report says.

The reported features include storing material created across Tencent’s services, automatic organisation and key-point extraction, and access for WorkBuddy to retrieve stored files. The report also says Tencent Drive is bundled into WorkBuddy memberships, alongside storage and AI services. It does not give the membership price or explain the beta’s eligibility and rollout in detail.

Why it matters

AI assistants are only as useful as the information they can work with, and switching between apps can leave files and task context scattered. Tencent’s proposed hub aims to make those hand-offs less awkward by putting storage, retrieval and AI features under one roof.

That also makes the membership bundle more than a storage offer: it could tie users’ working files and AI activity more closely to Tencent’s services. The practical test will be whether people can move useful context between tools without creating a new tangle of permissions and subscriptions.

Our read

A shared AI workspace is a sensible answer to a real nuisance: repeating context every time work moves to another app. But a beta announcement is a blueprint, not proof that the hand-offs work smoothly. The details users will care about most, including access controls, compatibility and what happens when they leave the bundle, are not clear in the report.

What to watch

  • Which users can join the beta, and whether Tencent publishes a wider launch date.
  • What the WorkBuddy membership costs and exactly which storage and AI features it includes.
  • How users control which apps and agents can access their stored material.

Discussion spark: Would you rather keep AI memory and files inside one company’s connected app bundle, or use separate tools with more control over where your data goes?
