Tencent has launched Tencent Cloud Drive, a storage and collaboration service intended to let AI agents and workplace tools share files and carry work context between tasks. The notable shift is from storing documents to keeping the materials and process behind a piece of work available for whoever, or whatever, takes over next.

Tencent AI Watch analysis

What happened

Tencent announced the service at its Global Digital Ecosystem Conference on 29 October. In a hands-on account, 36Kr describes connections to WorkBuddy, Tencent Docs, ima and Tencent Meeting, with an AI assistant available across the tools. The service is also designed to connect with external agents through CLI and MCP interfaces.

For enterprise customers, 36Kr says storage is expanded to 50GB per seat, ten times the previous capacity. It describes Tencent Cloud Drive as a shared base for Tencent’s Buddy One cross-application AI collaboration system, where authorised agents can access relevant material and continue work.

Why it matters

An agent can produce a document and still leave the next person with the tedious job of finding the conversation, source material and decisions that led to it. Tencent’s pitch is that shared storage can preserve more of that working context, so a later task does not have to start with a full re-explanation.

That could make handovers between tools and agents less clumsy, especially in organisations where work is spread across different apps. The source describes the product and its intended role, not evidence that it has solved permissions, context loss or cross-tool handovers in everyday deployments.

Our read

This is a more interesting proposition than another AI assistant bolted onto a file list. If agents are to work across applications, the handover layer matters: useful work includes the trail of decisions and materials, not just the final file. Tencent is making a clear bet on that infrastructure, though the real test will be whether it works smoothly beyond its own software family.

What to watch

  • Which external agents and tools can connect through CLI and MCP.
  • How access permissions are handled when agents share enterprise material.
  • Whether customers can demonstrate reliable handovers between different tools and agents.

Discussion spark: Should the shared context for AI work live in a central company platform, or remain distributed across the tools where the work happens?
