Tencent says its WorkBuddy AI agent has handled more than nine billion task requests since launching in March, and has previewed two upcoming models for business use. The figures and product plans point to a broader enterprise push, although the numbers come from Tencent rather than an independent assessment.
Tencent AI Watch analysis
What happened
At its Global Digital Ecosystem Summit on 29 October, Tencent announced new enterprise capabilities for WorkBuddy and previewed Hy4 and a lower-cost version, Hy4 Flash. The Daily Tribune reports that Tencent says WorkBuddy has been adopted across more than 50 industries and by half of China’s top 500 enterprises. The company also says its ecosystem includes more than 50,000 developers and partners, with over 200,000 specialised AI skills.
Tencent describes Hy4 as designed for more efficient reasoning, complex business tasks and visual understanding. Both models are still upcoming, and the company says they will be available through Tencent Cloud TokenHub, a platform for accessing and managing multiple models.
The company also says it is expanding WorkBuddy internationally, including integration with existing messaging apps and enterprise systems. It cited customer projects in Indonesia and Thailand, and said it expanded cloud capacity in six locations: Frankfurt, Osaka, Riyadh, Malaysia, Mexico and Thailand.
Why it matters
The useful signal is not just another model preview. Tencent is presenting an AI agent, a model platform and cloud infrastructure as parts of one enterprise offer. If the tools work as described, businesses could access multiple models and add agents to systems they already use, rather than starting from a blank slate.
The scale figures are company claims, not independent measures of adoption or results. And the models have been previewed, not released, so buyers do not yet have a public performance or pricing comparison to weigh up.
Our read
Tencent is making a serious bid to turn its domestic AI activity into an international business proposition: tools, model access and cloud capacity bundled together. WorkBuddy’s reported task volume is striking, but a large request count does not tell us whether those tasks were useful, completed successfully or saved customers money. The next interesting chapter is proof in real deployments, not another impressive-looking counter.
What to watch
- When Hy4 and Hy4 Flash become available, and what they cost through TokenHub.
- Which WorkBuddy integrations and international markets launch in practice.
- Whether customers publish measurable results from deployments beyond Tencent’s own figures.
Discussion spark: For enterprise AI, what should count as convincing proof of adoption: task volume, active customers, or measurable business results?
