Town has raised $108 million at a $1 billion valuation to expand its AI assistants from individual helpers towards team-wide work. The San Francisco startup says its Townies connect to workplace systems, with the new direction focused on getting assistants to collaborate across teams.

What happened

The Next Web reports that Forerunner Ventures and Menlo Ventures co-led the Series B, with Andreessen Horowitz and First Round Capital also participating. Town’s assistants can coordinate work, manage calendars and handle tasks across teams. The company’s email-first interface connects to more than 60 enterprise tools, including for inbox triage and drafting replies.

Town says it has reached thousands of daily business users since its public launch in June 2026, and that Menlo Ventures adopted the product internally before investing. Those are company-reported figures and examples. The funding and product details are set out in The Next Web’s report.

Why it matters

The pitch is a step beyond giving each employee a chatbot: assistants that coordinate across a team could take on work involving shared calendars, inboxes and business tools. That makes the practical question less about how fluent one assistant sounds and more about how well several can work within the same organisation’s processes.

Town’s reported user numbers suggest early business uptake, but they do not tell us how often the assistants are used or what outcomes customers get. A billion-dollar valuation is a sizeable vote of confidence, not a user manual.

Our read

The team-work angle is the point to watch. Connecting to 60-plus tools is useful only if the assistants can coordinate reliably and save people effort, rather than giving them a new place to supervise busy software. Town has a substantial funding round to build on, but the proof will be in the work it can actually take off people’s plates.

What to watch

  • What team-wide tasks Townies can handle, and which still need a person to coordinate them.
  • Whether Town shares evidence of customer outcomes beyond user counts.
  • How the company turns its new funding into product expansion and sustained adoption.

Discussion spark: If AI assistants can coordinate work across a team, which decisions or tasks should still require a person to step in?
