Zwift is introducing a pricier subscription tier that combines an AI training coach and adaptive plans with real-world video routes. The practical choice for riders is whether those additions justify a £9 monthly premium over the existing plan.

What happened

Cyclingnews reports that Zwift Plus will cost £26.99 a month in the UK, compared with £17.99 for standard Zwift. Annual subscriptions are £269.99 and £179.99 respectively. The existing tier remains available at its current price.

The Plus tier adds Zwift Coach, which the report describes as helping riders set a goal, analyse workouts and adapt a plan as sessions are completed, missed or skipped. It also adds 21 video-based routes, filmed by Zwift’s in-house team, spanning destinations including the French Alps, Mallorca, Tenerife and the Scottish Highlands.

Why it matters

This is a concrete AI feature attached to a familiar subscription decision, rather than an AI label floating past on its way to the marketing department. Riders can keep the current service, or pay more for coaching that is meant to adjust as real life interferes with the training plan. The new routes add another reason to consider Plus, but also mean the price increase is buying more than the coach alone.

Cyclingnews reports that Zwift cites figures linking training consistency and fitness gains, including a claimed increase of up to 12% in functional threshold power for riders with a 12-week streak. Those figures are presented as Zwift’s rationale for encouraging consistent training, not as an independently established result for this new feature.

Our read

The useful test is not whether an AI coach can produce a tidy plan on day one. It is whether its adjustments are good enough to help riders train more consistently, without turning missed sessions into another thing to feel guilty about. At £9 extra each month, the feature needs to be more than a chatbot with a whistle.

What to watch

  • How Zwift Coach changes a plan after a rider misses or skips sessions.
  • Whether riders can see why the coach has adjusted a workout.
  • Whether the 21 video routes and adaptive coaching make Plus worth the higher price for existing subscribers.

Discussion spark: Would you pay £9 more each month for an AI coach that adapts your training, or should adaptive coaching be included in the standard subscription?
