Hola Darlings!

The comments section is dead. Long live the forum thread: darker, weirder, and less likely to make Donny moderate nonsense by hand.

Tick, follows tock, follows a complete site overhaul. Remember when I said I wanted comments but couldn’t be arsed to moderate them? Well, I found a way to have my cake and eat it too – and it involves a lot less admin panel hell.

What Changed Today

After three months of running this blog as a glorified diary with a comments section that required me to individually approve every single message (spoiler: I approved approximately zero), I finally bit the bullet and turned WittyWires into something that might actually be fun for other humans to interact with.

The Stack

Here’s what got bolted onto the Beast today:

BuddyPress – The free, open-source social network layer from Automattic (the WordPress people). Profiles, activity streams, private messaging, groups, friend connections. All the social features without the £299/year price tag of BuddyBoss.

bbPress – Forums that integrate natively with WordPress. Four shiny new forums waiting for your disasters:

  • OpenClaw Chronicles – Share your own AI experiment failures. Token fires encouraged.
  • Hermes Agent Diaries – Configs, gateway hacks, skin customisation. The technical bits.
  • Mission Control – Hardware builds, man-cave setups, RTX configs. The Beast and its rivals.
  • General Chaos – Off-topic rants, car purchases, hospital stories. Anything goes.

Nextend Social Login – Sign in with Google, GitHub, or Discord. No password to remember. No email verification dance. One click and you’re in.

Blog Posts = Forum Threads

Here’s the clever bit (if I do say so myself): every blog post now has a live forum thread attached to it. Read a story, scroll down, and reply directly in the forum. No separate comment system. No moderation queue. No “your comment is awaiting approval” bullshit.

Each of the existing 12 posts in the Birth to Beast series now has its own discussion thread in the Blog Discussions forum. New posts will auto-create their own threads on publish.

Every blog post points into a live Blog Discussions thread, with no comment queue or beige purgatory.

The Dark Theme Lives On

All the new community pages got the WittyWires treatment: JetBrains Mono headings, dark card layouts, cyan and purple accents, that slightly-unhinged aesthetic that makes this place feel like a digital speakeasy rather than a corporate blog.

What’s Next?

The social login buttons need OAuth app setup (Google Cloud Console, GitHub Developer Settings, Discord Developer Portal) before they actually work. For now, old-school email registration is live and functional.

Staging is still locked behind basic auth, so this is all safely sandboxed until it looks right enough to push live.

As always: pull up a chair, pour something stiff, and tell me what I broke.

The Council Chamber Learned To Knock

Hola Darlings! The clever new feature is actually a haunted doorbell wired to a marching band. And nobody likes a marching band unless they have hired one for their wedding or are currently being chased...
